I know there are haters but I reckon these are one of the greatest icon cars GMH ever did. Really wish I had one.

Also lurking outside the top 60 hall was this gem that should have been inside.

The top 60 elite hall is always an interesting place. The step up in custom work, innovation, attention to detail and presentation have to be seen to believe. You have to find the ability to look beyond whether you like the vehicle or not at times. Some times are harder than others…

Would be more ORSM in not green?

Couldn’t look past the fuggliness of this truck in green green should never be seen with the shit engine selection.

Attached File  IMG_5097.jpeg   146.58K   5 downloads

And to prove again that I am a hypocrite here is something I would happily own despite the colour and too many doors. Excellent engine choice gets it over the line.

Best engine bay, by a substantial margin.

Nice colour and awesome custom 3 piece hotwires.

I don't care what the points sheet says, this does not belong in the top 60 hall.

I looked long and hard for Heath and the hatch but couldn’t find either.

By this stage of the day it was very hot outside. We had spent an hour or so at the burnouts and looking through the amazing stuff on the oval. The top 60 hall was also warm and still so we sought refuge in the air conditioned vendors hall.

After a while we thought we might kill some time in the dyno hall.

Talk about good timing.

Just after we arrived Adam Rogash from MPW in melbourne who have run the dyno event for years put his ALL SHOW commodore on for an exhibition run. Its a previous winner of drag week…

There was a bit of drama when it was apparent that the electric water pump had died but they ran it anyway using the awesome cooling benefit of alcohol fuel.

Attached File  IMG_5159.jpeg   65.31K   5 downloads

Did one playful run.

Attached File  FullSizeRender.jpeg   77.03K   5 downloads

For a lazy 1719 horsepower at the hubs.

At this power level the cars look like they are going to climb off the dyno at full noise. Stirring stuff!

How far we have come!

From the first time Todd Wilkes turned up at Summernats 14 and made 772 hp with a holden V8 turbo limited to pump fuel 98 octane and 15 pounds of boost to Rob Vickery cracking 1000 hp at Summernats 15 (holden V8 turbo) and Eddy Tassone making 1376 hp at Summernats 16 with a holden V8 turbo again limited to pump fuel and 15 pounds of boost we have become spoiled by the ease with which huge numbers are made with unlimited fuel and boost levels in the modern era.

Adam stand tall on the shoulders of the legends that precede him.

Wandering slowly towards the exit the action was high on the cruise loop. Plenty getting a bit loose with the “no burnout” rule with the crowd egging them on.

I thought there might be a bit of de stickering about to happen.

Attached File  IMG_5147.jpeg   210.79K   4 downloads

After a while it became clear it wasnt the case and it seemed to be a simple show of colour.

Hi Rob,

If he drives it without the blower and a bonnet on then sure.

Otherwise its as legal as herpes is curable…

Maybe he gets his roadworthies from the guy who used to do all the cars that were required to have number plates for the racing category they were in. They all had to promise him the cars would never be used on the street.

Drives it just as you see it.

The wonderful world of getting an unregistered vehicle permit.

Cheers

Rob

That doesn’t make it legal in my understanding as a condition of the permit is that the vehicle meets roadworthy requirements.

He has been pulled over multiple times by HWP, and checked out and allowed to continue.

Given that they are known to be pedantic about most things, I think that he has fulfilled the legal requirements.

I'd  luv to know more Rob.

I've been down the initial path of UVP in NSW a couple  of times, with a view to driving a race car to a local show or whatever.

A. because it'd be cool,

B. because it'd save the trailer load/ unload/ parking .

I always end up in the same place -

$79 per Year

Only for a defined journey A to B, by the  most direct route, for a defined purpose.

Need to fill out the Safe to operate doco.

Which means you need to have any mods certified by engineer.

That Capri would fall over on the full cage for a start?

Dunno, just wishing I could pull it  off.

Good luck to him and anyone that does it. I have. Here in SA you can get a three day open permit for $80, last time I did it.

90 % of these cars would get defected here in W.A.
you cant even have extractors here without  a mod Permit ffs

let alone a great big dirty blower

I dont know the full exact details.

But from my queries a while ago, it just needs to be basically roadworthy.

Not to full rego inspection standards.

Lights brakes working etc.

Obviously roadworthy tyres.

Used to be 28 days for a single nominated trip, which could be a return trip.

There was also a clause for testing.

I looked at it for when the time comes for engineering my little truck.

Cheers

Rob

I too have driven some shady stuff on unreg permits in vic but the fine print does clearly state it must be roadworthy.

I have met Tristan a few times over the years and no doubt he is a friendly charming chap.

One day his luck will run out like it does for us all.

Early start as the sneaky free parking has more pressure on it what with the Cancer fundraisers not doing their usual cheap parking and it being Saturday, the biggest day of the Nats.

Lines to get in if you didn’t already have your wristband were biblical.

Once in it is sensory overload.

An acceptable Caribbean green and a very nice Vic car.

Attached File  FullSizeRender.jpeg   218.06K   3 downloads

I am at times a little loud and loose and may have uttered green green should never be seen a little too loudly to the kids as I walked away from the car above cos the owner of the car below pointed out that he quite liked the colour of his A9X

Attached File  FullSizeRender.jpeg   148.37K   3 downloads

And indeed it is a very nice car.

Too many doors though.

Yankee Chargers were everywhere and outnumbered the Aussie ones by a substantial margin.

Attached File  FullSizeRender.jpeg   182.16K   3 downloads

The lone C6 Corvette was a stunning car. Pictures do not do them justice. Its much lower and wider than you think and from most angles is a far better looking car than the angular styled current model.

Awesome looking blown Camaro. Looks like a horsepower monster. Which it was. Sorta.

Ran on the dyno saturday arvo. It’s a normal comp 427 BBC with 15 psi of 8/71 blower on E85. While no slouch I thought that combo might make more than the 700 and change that it managed. Sounded awesome though.
