Essentially, the original purpose of a glovebox or glove compartment, is to keep driving gloves there and dates back to early days of driving.

Our Torana's were also constructed with this compartments/storage.

Usually, one might find in them, an old map, logbook, mobile phone charger, feeler gauges et al.

But does anyone actually have a pair of driving gloves in them? Is it time to change the name of this storage?

It's losing about 4" of its depth in my GTS and what's left will be a fuse box.

It's where you put all the crap you lug around since the 1970's, just in case you need it...even though you never have, in 40+ years...

Me too
Spare fuses, indicator bulbs, sunnies, stereo booklet and stupid remover tool,
tissues the missus thinks I need
You should see hers
It’s worse than her handbag
The bloody thing barely closes

The workshop manual called it "Instrument Panel Compartment" back in the 70s

Well, it appears the glove box contains everything except gloves!

Those NRMA/petrol company maps are always a blast from the past and evoke an era of nostaga.

Remember when there used to be NRMA offices you could physically walk into and get a free map or old petrol stations (eg. Golden Fleece et al) that used to give out for free, things like maps, eye spy games, stickers, spinning tops etc.

Yep, clearly remember going to NRMA shop and loading up.on paper maps of NSW/QLD before heading off into the unknown... bit different now, can Google drive up every street before you go.
On the plus side, no need to try and refold (correctly) those bloody maps!
