Been rummaging around and found my orginal rear shocks which I though I had chucked out years ago.  One still had the XR label, bearly visable.

 

Two questions.

1) Why does the part number 2823793 not show up in either LJ parts manuals?

2) Is it possible and should I get them restored?

New rear shock absorbers from your dealer came with a small bag of parts - a fitting kit if you like so bare shock absorber 2823793 + fitting kit appears as 2823794 in the parts books.

 

Same type deal for the fronts.

Not sure I'd want to use them, and I doubt they can be rebuilt. But if you want original-looking I'm sure you could take the shrouds off and repaint them, and fit to a new pair. That would at least keep the stamping.

Easily rebuilt. They put new Monroe internals in them.
