I am currently refurbishing a 1975 LH Torana 253 SL with a Trimatic. I have managed to misplace all of the parts from the shifter to the transmission and I will probably find it at the end of the refurb. I have purchased a rod shift kit for a HQ to HZ and found the arm is too short. Is it possible to use this kit and extend the rod or is the arm different also. I have not been able to find information with dimensions to compare the HQ kit with the original. Any help would be much appreciated.

It is a console shift rod. I bought a HQ parts manual last night on ebay and downloaded today. I compared the parts numbers for the LH and HQ and they are the same except for the rod. I have just put it back on this morning and I must have had something fitted wrong as there is just enough length on the rod to work. Thanks for your help.

Yel327 you are right I just selected through Park to low and it selected correctly and the rod does not show signs of hitting in the tunnel or gearbox pipes.
Thank you again

HJ and LX both list 9929587 for trimatic console shift rod, 18.70" long. HQ used a shorter rod, p/n 2817346, 18.25" long. I can't remember when it changed. Might have had something to do with the slightly different way the consoles were mounted between HQ and HJ, plus they are totally different consoles. Might have meant the shifter geometry adjusted fractionally.
