My LC Torana has been off the road for years. The tags have gone missing unfortunately. Is there any way to tell if this is the correct engine is for it? Attached is a pic of the motor. Thanks

HI i could be wrong but it looks like a restamped  engine number, and there is no grain on the face, looks more like machining, check the date code next to the oil filter, sorry.

Decking the block has nothing to do with the engine number pad. That is clearly a restamped engine number.

Block cast date looks like A817 which would be 17th January 1968. This 186? block would be about 3 years too early for that engine number.

Alternatively the cast date is A317 which is 31st January 1967.

Looks like a HR block. Should have been 186A or 186K originally

Definitely wrong machining marks on the number pad for a red 6

Number is stamped not as bad as some, but the pad tells the story more than anything else.

Cheers

Is your LC an XU1?

I don’t know. It’s it a GTR but it does have the XU1 booster and the breather pipe for the fuel tank which all looks correct . The tank and breather isn’t a repo. No holes welded up where the GTR badges go under the quarter glass. There is a few other things but I’m no expert.

Gordon hi small battery box, MMMM, ok then you said earlier that it had the larger xu1 power booster, is there any signs of another bracket hole roughly 4 inches towards the bonnet hinge, look from the inner guard area, if there isn t im guessing that that restamp engine number just may belong to that car, 3100x3xxx by memory is a early 71LC XU1, can u put up some photos up of the battery tray, this will help in what your car is

3100X30356 belonged to a GTR XU1 completed on the 22/03/1971 and sold during April 1971 by Dealer 162 - Attwods Holden, Perth.
