Hi all,I usually give my Torana a start and run it for around half an hour weekly, lately I’ve found the horns going off without warning. Its only recently started doing it.
I happened to be sitting on drivers side while it went off, taking the horn button off I noticed it arcing blue through the central column where the spline is.I checked fuses ,all good.

I vaguely remember taking wires off the column somewhere I can’t remember where when I removed it for reconditioning and not putting them back .Would this have anything to do with why it keeps activating ( scares the shit outa me).Hopefully someone can help ,A pic of the wires I removed.Cheers Paul.

Probably find that the wire going to the horn button through the wheel is touching on the metal of the wheel boss.

A bit of tape or heatshrink should fix the issue.

Cheers

The horn circuit is powered with ignition on and when the button is pressed it closes the circuit, power goes to the horn and it makes noise!

Any short circuit will make the horn go off. With your description its likely the copper ring on the steering wheel or maybe a lose bare wire in the steering column may be the cause. Time to get out the test lamp and start poking around.

The horn wire (black) is incorporated into the indicator switch wiring.

Horn contact and black wire indicated by yellow arrows.

Stop, dome and horn have always run off the same fuse with 12V straight from the battery in every Holden I’ve owned. Good reason for it.

Yes, Clay is correct. All Holdens of the era have their horn powered directly to a 12V source & then are earthed back thru to the horn contact in the steering wheel. If this wire is earthed out anywhere along its route the horn will sound.
