So one of the small things that I wanted to add to my LX was an electric boot release. There's been a bunch of ways over the years but most are only done when shaving the lock cylinder, with that out of the way it makes it a lot easier to interface the latch with an actuator or cable. In my case, I retained the lock cylinder (and wanted it to operate as normal), as well as having electric release.

So after studying the latch and how it actuates, I saw that I could cut a small section of the outer body away, exposing the trip lever, weld a small tab to it and attach a rod from a standard central locking actuator.

Myself, I mounted the motor off to the side and will make a small cover for it that will get painted along with the body, however beyond that I'm not too worried about aesthetics. A cable to a remotely mounted actuator could be done as well if hiding the actuator was more of a priority.

Only modification to the boot lid was a small hole in the latch bracket for the rod to pass through and two M3 nutserts for the actuator.

Will have the standard GM style yellow pushbutton mounted under the drivers side dash/kickpanel area, and will also interface with the alarm for keyless operation.

Feel free to use the idea, I'm sure its been done anyway!

I quite like this idea, simple and effective.

I might give it a go eventually.
