Pays to check everything....on pulling the box and checking it appears the machinist ..when he did the pressure plate and clutch balancing, he couldn't find the brass sprigot bush so he made one up to balance it all together..trouble is he made it out of stainless steel!!!..Now it appears that it was either forgotten or the machinist thought the builder would replace it with the correct one. The screaming I was hearing was the bush spinning on the input shaft...its left some metal on the shaft and we have managed to clean that off. The new clutch plate is here on Thursday..its a 10.5"..told him it was...he ordered a 10" one...then it all goes back together. Been accepted for Speed on Tweed so going through this thing with a fine tooth comb if Colin is driving it.....NOS (honarary pit person/sheila/thing)is helping me out with the correct clutch slave cylinder bracket so thats fixed...did a radiator flush and got some gunk out...it sat and idled for 20 minutes and sat in 210 degrees with the fan going. Also fitting a shroud off a VK Commodore that appears to be just about spot on with some trimming.

Next I want to pull the axles and check how they handled the race meeting...Hand sanded the QFM brake pads so they are flat again..getting full bite on the discs now not 55%...shit it stops!!...All back together then off to NOS who is doing the much needed cut and polish to bring his paintjob up to what he wants to present the car at SOT. We are setting up camp with Rocket in the orange Jane hatch and the Falveys in their red hatch so a small Torana team pit, 2 hatches and the 4 door.. ... will look the goods..Get there if you can! :spoton: I am still getting my head around how fast this thing is going to be..with the slipping clutch and hook up at WOW it still felt 100% faster than the Yellow car...when we fix the clutch / hook up problems its going to be a beast...Lots of respect for Struggler and similiar now with the horsepower they are generating..its pretty bloody scary actually..need to put your brain through the next corner before you get there...Bliss!

Personally I think there is a business here..building Group C replicas and letting the customers fit their driveline...we might be onto something!!!

OK...The box is back in with the button clutch attached and in position. Found it easier to fit the plate and pressure plate...then the bellhousing and slide the box into it and bolt up..Jesus those Toploaders are heavy!! I will fit up all the shifters and linkages and clutch slave tomorrow...need to check whats going on with the speedo..it wasnt working but think it wasnt pushed in at the dash end...Over the weekend I will shape and fit the radiator shroud and pull the axles for a look see. Hopefully this is the end of the clutch dramas. While I was under there I noticed the drivers side tappet cover gasket wasnt sitting totally right and there is a bit of oil running down the rear on that side...will fix that as well.

Hopefully this hasn't put excesive end load on to your crank.

Wouldn't hurt to give end play a quick check maybe. Big s/driver behind flywheel.

Hey Racean69...you got me thinking on this one so decided to check..My max allowable end float is 1.5mm....I am sitting on 1mm so it appears it don't do any thing un-toward..Thanks for the heads up :spoton:

hey rory.
Looks like you are having alot of fun with the car !!!!!
Your axles should be fine in ya BW.
I just had my axles out on the weekend as i am installing my LOKKA centre and i am running 295's with a mini spool and have been giving it a real hard time as of late and they were good as new. Very impressed with the BW.
But you are running a bit more HP than me.
Also the side gear bearings were taken out of my BW when the mini spool was installed. So i rang the shop that did the diff rebuild and they gave me some for free. Pretty pleased with that considering it was over 2 years ago.
Your Installation guide was very helpful.

Evan.

is the lokka predictable when driving it hard and breaking traction etc?
Ive read that they can take some getting used to.

Works fine for me..didnt notice anything untoward ...similiar to a tight LSD..

Box and shifter and hydr clutch all done and dusted...clutch seems to be working OK..NOS' new bracket suits the slave cylinder perfect....Now for the other small odds and ends.

Disapointing news with the clutch and box drama's but glad you found it all quick enough before any real damage is done.

Thanks Hatchy..Yeah better to get it all out of the way in the early rundowns....clutch man has put the acid on the supplier..more investigating shows the machinist and assembler were not at fault...appears the clucth company are the ones actually supplying the new spigot bearings in satinless steel that is bronze impreganated...they engineers cannot explain why at the moment..he refused to allow me to use the replacement (s/steel one again!)and drilled out a phopherous bronze proper Holden spigot bearing to fit. He wants money back to me for the clutch kit and labour to fit it. Will keep you posted but if you are doing a clutch at the moment..no names yet...check the spigot is NOT stainless steel.

Yeah he thought of that too Howard but I am only off this week and am running out of time so we ran the P/bronze stocker. Not a lot of room in there but would suspect you could fit one.

Pulled the axles..no marks..look like new..all good there...want to pull the diff hat for a look but found out the same hat off an EA Falcon is actually made in alloy and polishes up real nice....also helps with heat dissapation they say so might see if I can find one then do that through the week..Removed the 1" spacer and fitted the 3" aircleaner with K&N top....just need to refit the drivers side tappet cover gasket and thats basically it....needs a run to bed the QFM pads in again and we are ready again.

Tappet cover gasket done...that screw at the back is a bitch to get at. Also cut in the VK Commodore radiator shroud..fitted pretty simple and pretty happy with my effort. Need to work out how to fix it now but thats not a big drama.
