Hi Guys.

There is only one engine plant, it's the one at Fishermans Bend.

They are correct when it comes to variations from body to body because GM-H had an assembly plant in every state (exc Tas.) & different plants did different things, But when it comes to engines, as I said there is only one plant. I've discussed this with many guys over time & every genuine Holden 307 I've dismantled has had burnt remnants of Holden HK Rocket Red paint on the exhaust manifolds. Also the few factory shots I have of new 307s have the exhaust manifolds painted red. Holden didn't assemble these motors, they received them ready-built from the US & then painted then here & applied the 'Holden 5 Litre' decals to the rocker covers. It could also depend on how each one was painted. Maybe after a few dealer complaints of a burning paint smell from early HK 307 owners, they used less paint in this area & didn't paint them all over, but it would appear they were never masked off.

Having said all of that, I prefer the look of the clean unpainted cast iron manifolds.

Wow!!, an exceptional example. How much have you had to do to get it to its current condition?
